Girl Scout Ambassador Troop Update

It has been quite a while since I posted about my troop’s activities. Here is a Girl Scout Ambassador troop update.

Like most of you, the pandemic changed everything about everyday life, including meeting with my troop. Between the other leader’s business, my new job, two high school girls thrown into crisis schooling, and the pandemic, meetings were non-existent. I was on Zoom for hours a day with my supervisors and my staff. I had no energy to plan a Zoom meeting for two. My co-leader was trying to keep her business doors open, so she also had no time to plan a meeting.

Fast forward to this fall, and my friend and her daughter were busy with her Gold Award project and her Honors and AP classes. My daughter graduated high school early and was starting cosmetology school. While the girls had hung out with each other many times, it was not scout related. My friend and I managed to touch base on occasion, and this too, was not Girl Scout related.

Earlier in April, friend and I had an important discussion about what to do with the money we had left in the bank account. After buying graduation cords, bridging pins, and an awesome Flames of Scouting patch (which is gorgeous!), we still had several hundred dollars to spend. The girls decided they wanted to go to a local alpaca farm and then out to lunch. We selected the restaurant beforehand so make things simpler.

Last week, we went on our first Girl Scout field trip since before the pandemic!

There is an alpaca farm in our area, and the girls wanted to go. Both love animals.

Once the tour of the farm was over, the girls headed over to the tiny merchandise table. If they were younger, this would have caused issues. Now that we had to spend the money and there are only two girls, it was easy. Each girl selected a stuffed animal that had alpaca hair. While my daughter selected hers as a memory of this trip to add to her collection, the other girl was bringing her new stuffie as a memory to decorate her dorm room.

We then headed out to lunch, where there was outdoor dining. Our discussion about what to do with our remaining funds continued. Our next outing will be a field trip to Michael’s. The girls will make a brand new scrapbook for their older years. Unlike the perpetual Girl Scout scrapbook of their younger days, when we were on a budget with 12 girls, my two girls will get a real 12 x 12 scrapbook. They can select stickers and their own paper to really personalize it.

They are also planning another art project to do together, and they will be shopping for supplies for that as well.

I uploaded the pictures I had taken over the years, and let me tell you, it was a blast from the past! I
