July 31st has always been, for me, the proverbial “line in the sand” in terms of summer.
I am a teacher. In my part of the country, school lets out by the end of the third week of June. July is my time of bliss, where the words “lesson plans” and “school” do not exist. When we flip the calendar to August, I am relaxed and ready to make plans for the upcoming school year.
I had the same feeling when I led my Girl Scout troop. We did not meet in the summer. In August, I would outline the first several meetings, and after our first meeting, I would fill in the rest with what the girls wanted to do. The summer between changing levels was always fun, as I wanted to see what new and exciting opportunities my girls had ahead of them.
